Town Walking & Running

Just step out the door and get some exercise! Enjoy walking tours of the wonderfully peaceful town of Brandon, which fosters a community of family and involvement. All of these routes are either in town, in residential communities, or just outside of town, so please be courteous and respectful of the occupants. The sidewalks and roadways are plowed in winter, but they could have some icy patches anywhere from November through April. Don’t feel like you cannot get out and walk them, however.

We suggest starting most of these routes at the Brandon Post Office where there is parking.

Walk One - 2 miles, flat walking mostly on sidewalks in town.

Begin at the Post Office and start walking toward the center of town, past the restaurants and shops. Walk past the Brandon Inn and up Park St. to the intersection of Marble and High Street; along here you will enjoy a classic New England street. Walk across the street to the other sidewalk on Park St. and return to the Post Office.

Walk Two - 3 miles, a variety of elevations and flat walking, all on the side of the road in a quiet residential area.

Begin at the Post Office and walk across the street toward the center of town. At your first crossroad, Prospect St., turn left and walk up the hill; stay to the left side of the road, so the vehicles can see and easily pass you. Continue on Prospect St. past Cedar St. on your right. Turn left onto Mt. Pleasant Drive, continue on Mt. Pleasant which becomes Sunset Drive (dirt). Take Sunset Drive, which becomes Ormsbee Drive. Turn left onto Conant Drive (paved). Turn left, back onto Mt. Pleasant Drive and walk back down toward Rt. 7. Turn right onto Rt. 7 and follow it back to the Post Office.

Walk Three - 4 miles, a combination of pavement and gravel.

Begin at the Post Office and walk across the street toward the center of town. At your first crossroad, Prospect St., turn left and walk up the hill; stay to the left side of the road, so the vehicles can see and easily pass you. Continue on Prospect St. past Cedar St. on your right and Mt. Pleasant on your left. Continue walking straight onto a dirt road (Prospect St.) and enjoy some great views. Follow the loop to the right and return down Prospect St. Turn left onto Cedar St. (Cedar becomes Walnut St.) At the “T” turn left onto W. Seminary St., which becomes Highland Ave. and Dyer St. At the stop sign and next “T” turn left onto Case St., which becomes E. Prospect St. At the end of the road, turn right at the “T” onto River St. Pass E. Seminary St. and walk onto W. Seminary St., which will take you back to Rt. 7. Turn right and continue back to the Post Office.

Walk Four - 5 miles.  This walk will take you down a quiet, New England gravel road.

From the Post Office, take Rt. 73 West / Champlain Street (walk west from the P.O. through the fountain park). Walk along the sidewalks until they end, at which time cross the road to the wide shoulder. Turn right onto Hollow Rd. Walk up this gravel road quite a distance, and up a couple of hills. At the intersection of Hollow Rd. and Arnold District Rd., turn right onto the paved Arnold District Rd. Walk on the left side, on the shoulder. You will pass an entrance to a factory building on your right (Tubbs Rd.); cross the road at this point and continue walking past Tubbs Rd., onto New Rd., along the outskirts of Park Village. Cross Mulcahy Dr. and continue on New Rd., which ends up in a parking area. Walk through the parking and through the “posts” along the dirt path toward Rt. 7/Grove Street. Estabrook Field will be on your right. Walk across Rt. 7 onto the sidewalk, turn south (right), and walk back to the Post Office.
